JOB DESCRIPTION:
American Lighting is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to add to our team. This position will work closely with the Product Management, Sourcing, QA, and Sales Managers to develop cutting-edge products for multiple sales divisions within the company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Cooperate with teams in China and Denver to coordinate new product development and product lifecycle management.
- Identify the needs of the company and integrate market research to determine the needs and goals of new products.
- Develop design guidelines and best practices to share with global team thereby driving consistency and quality within the organization.
- Conceptualize new product ideas by using CAD software to design prototypes.
- Test products throughout the design process to troubleshoot any potential problems.
- Sample different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances, and other factors to find the best ones that suit new product brief.
- Lead product design reviews / extensive testing to insure and/or improve design quality.
- Write up and photographically document product specifications.
- Maintain and improve upon all product development documentation.
- Create detailed, yet easily interpreted quality control inspection plans.
- Work in collaboration with our quality control inspection team / aid in routine production inspections.
- Analyze existing products to identify areas for improvement and updating current documentation.
- Constant communication and management of global vendors.
- Detailed review of multiple weekly production inspection reports.
- Ensure products meet the given specifications of and stay up-to-date with requirements for certification such as UL, ETL, DLC, Energy Star, RoHS.
- Improve and execute product development SOP.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, mechanical or related degree.
- Bilingual: Mandarin and English – speaking, reading, and writing.
- Electric design or electrical engineering experience is a plus.
- Prior experience working with an LED Lighting Manufacturer or working with 3-5 years of experience as a product development / quality control engineer.
- Thorough understanding of the Product Development Lifecycle.
- Lighting technology experience with demonstrated capabilities working in a manufacturing environment and implementing new products into production.
- Previous experience with sheet metal bending, plastic injection and aluminum die-cast design and manufacturing processes.
- Expert knowledge of CAD Software; SolidWorks is preferred.
- Computer skills - Outlook, Excel, Internet Research, Teams, PowerPoint.
